Phillipe Granat (1899-1983)

Philippe Granat was born in Russia in 1899, his parents fled during the pogroms of the early 20th Century and his family arrived in Paris in around 1902. Granat became a well respected artist, painting scenes of Paris as well as still life and portraits, he was involved with both the Montmartre and the Montparnasse groups of artists. After the Second World War Granat moved to the Parisian suburb of Combs la Ville where he enjoyed painting the local landscape. Granat exhibited extensively, including at the Salon de la Nationale des Beaux Arts and the Salon des Artistes Francais. This charming little sketch was done when he was only 17.
