Dorothea St John George lived in Chelsea, and worked in both England and France. She was a member of the Society of Women Artists, and also exhibited at the Royal Academy between 1914-17. This atmospheric rendering of a Parisian downpour at twilight shows the influence of Japanese woodcut prints, and was originally sold by the well-known printsellers Doig, Wilson and Wheatley in Edinburgh.
