William Henry Innes (1905-1999)

Innes was a self-taught artist who exhibited at the Royal Academy, New England Arts Club and the Royal Institue of Oil Painters.  He first exhibited his work during the Second World War when he served in the Royal Air Force. He painted mainly in pastels and was a master of this medium, he was a member of the Pastel Society in which he was held in high esteem.  He seemed to relish painting seascapes, and capturing the play of light upon water, and returned to this subject often whilst exploring the south coast.
