A ROOM WITH MIRRORS

Norman Jacques was a well-known Northern artist, teacher and printmaker.  He was born in Manchester, and won awards and scholarships as a young man, travelling to Italy and France in the 1940s. He returned to Manchester in the 1950s and held a senior lectureship in Art and Design at Manchester Polytechnic, as well as being a member and President of both the Manchester Art Club and the Manchester Academy of Fine Art.

It is for his printmaking that Jacques is best known, in which he had considerable skill.  His prints; whether landscapes, interiors, seascapes, are quite distinctive and experimental and display strong lines, colour and often an unusual perspective, veering towards abstraction in the 1960s.
